Guide to the aptitude assessment procedure
An aptitude assessment procedure must be completed by applicants whose degree does not directly entitle them to a doctorate
(degree from a different subject or unsuitable grade - see Section II, § 3, para. 4a of the doctoral degree regulations dated 27.11.2018).
Required documents(forms/downloads):
- Form 3.1 |Doctoral candidate application|
- Proof of previous education/qualification (e.g. Master's certificate and diploma)
- Curriculum vitae with photo (incl. educational background)
Deadlines to be observed:
- Registration within four weeks of starting work
- Submission of documents to the Dean's Office > 10 days before the next Faculty Council meeting
- Dates of department council meetings here
Important: In this case, the submission of the application forms implies the application to carry out the aptitude assessment procedure, which will be voted on at the Faculty Council meeting (see step 2).
- Oral examination: Subject area of the planned dissertation
- Duration: 15-30 min
- Exam passed = possibility of acceptance as a doctoral candidate in the Biology department
- Examination not passed = possibility of qualification studies:
- maximum duration: 1 year
- 15-30 ECTS Master Biology
- the modules to be completed are determined by the committee
- Average grade modules/examination results at least 3.0
- final decision on acceptance or qualification studies is then made by the department council (following receipt of a letter of confirmation from the Dean's Office)
