Dear incoming freshmen,
The Department of Biology extends a warm welcome to you!
You have an exciting biology program ahead of you, and you have every reason to look forward to it!
You’ll surely have some questions, especially at the beginning. To make your start as smooth as possible, we’d like to provide you with some information on this page.
The winter semester always begins on October 1. This year, the actual lecture period—including your first lectures and lab sessions—begins on Monday, October 19, 2026.
Below you’ll find important events and tips to help you get off to a good start in your studies.
Your new RPTU email address: As soon as it has been assigned to you and activated, please check your inbox regularly or set up an email forwarding. All important information regarding your university, your department, your degree program, and your student council will be sent exclusively via this email address. You will also receive all group emails pertaining to you and your studies through this email address.
Welcome & information events
Welcome from the department
At the start of the semester, our department will hold official welcome and orientation events, to which we cordially invite you! We strongly recommend attending these events, as they will provide you with a wealth of important information about the start of your studies and give you the opportunity to meet all the key contacts.
The official welcome and orientation event, “The Kickoff,” will take place this year on October 19, 2026, starting at 2:00 p.m. in Room 13-322 . You will be notified of this in advance via email.

In addition, the Biology Student Council offers all students a comprehensive welcome program as part of the “Ersti-Tage” (Freshman Days), including an information evening, a hike, a freshman weekend, and much more.
The student council also maintains its own website with many activities and information about student life and academic matters.
Academic Advising
The Student Service Center(SSC) offers a comprehensive range of advising and information services related to studying at RPTU!
Our academic advisors will be happy to answer any subject-specific questions you may have about your studies. You can find the academic advisors for the individual degree programs here.

You will find detailed information on your important degree program documents (module handbook, examination regulations and much more) linked to the individual degree programs below. The program documents serve as a guide and framework for your studies so that you can concentrate on the exciting content.
