Information on the content
The Bachelor's degree program in Biology is an admission-free degree programme that starts in the winter semester. It is scientifically oriented, provides a basic education in biology and natural sciences and is the further development of the previous Bachelor's degree course in Biological Sciences.
The focus is on a broad basic knowledge in the areas of study of botany, zoology, ecology/biodiversity, genetics/human genetics, animal and plant physiology, biotechnology/microbiology, neurobiology, biophysics and cell biology as well as the basics in the subjects of chemistry, physics and mathematics/biostatistics. The broad basic knowledge serves as a basis for entering our subject-specific Master's degree course in Biology with four specializations.
Key data on the course
The first four semesters with 16 basic modules, each consisting of lectures and practical courses, form the foundation course. In the third year of study, students deepen their biological knowledge in one or two biological areas of study in two advanced internships with seminars and two modules with theoretical courses. The company or laboratory internship as well as the freely selectable non-biological subject serve to orient and expand the professional field. At the end of the course, a 9-week laboratory activity with a written thesis - the Bachelor's thesis - is on the agenda.
