Biology Day 2026
RAW TIME
The "Day of Biology" is an information event organized by the biology department for interested students from the twelfth grade onwards from all Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland grammar schools and integrated comprehensive schools. A wide range of lectures and workshops offer the opportunity to gain an insight into the fascinating science and exciting study of biology. Visits to lecture halls, practical rooms and laboratories at RPTU in Kaiserslautern provide a first impression of student life.
The "Day of Biology" combines theory and practice in the field of biology and helps pupils to decide which subject to study. The various biology degree programs and the career prospects of biologists are presented in student advisory lectures.
The "Day of Biology" is held every two years.
For all students in grade 12 and above.
The Day of Biology will take place on October 2, 2026 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on the campus of the Rhineland-Palatinate University (RPTU).
Attention: Registration is only possible from mid-May - the program will be updated!
Individual registration is required to attend the workshops. Please register on the registration portaland tell us your three preferences for workshops. As long as there are free places available, we will try to place you in the desired workshops. If the desired workshops are fully booked, we will assign you to a similar workshop. All lectures can also be attended without registration!
The respective ministries of the states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg recommend participation in this event. In general, however, it is up to the school management to exempt you from lessons on this day as part of a school event. If necessary, pupils of legal age or their legal guardians must apply for a leave of absence in good time. Your class teacher will be happy to help you with the application.
From the main train station you can reach the university with the city bus line 105 and line 115 direction "Universität". Get off at the bus stop"Uni Zentrum". We are happy to reserve a parking space for schools arriving by bus. Simply contact us at tagderbiologie(at)rptu.de.
NEW: From 2026, we will also be offering a workshop for accompanying teachers for the first time! Reservations can be made via the registration portal for accompanying teachers (open from mid-May). All other workshops are intended for pupils. Teachers are welcome to accompany participants to the workshops and find out more about what is on offer. The labs and lecture halls will be announced on our website shortly before the event.
Accompanying teachers are also welcome to attend all specialist lectures. No reservation is required.
A lounge with WLAN, drinks and workstations is also available for accompanying teachers . The room number will be announced at the welcome or can be requested at the central information desk.

Daily routine
The Day of Biology starts on October 11, 2024 at 9:00 am. After a short welcome in the chemistry building 52-207, you will start your first workshop or lecture of your choice. In small groups, we will take you to our research labs and practical rooms, where you can carry out interesting experiments on various research topics together with biology students. There are a total of three time slots in which workshops and lectures take place. All workshops last 75 minutes and are designed for 10-20 participants. In order to allow all visitors to take part in two workshops and two lectures, these are repeated in each time slot.
During the lunch break, you can find out about all aspects of studying biology at the various information stands. Exchange ideas with students from the biology student council and find out more about the diverse career prospects that await you after a successful biology degree. Take care of yourself at the Studierendenwerk stands and enjoy coffee and cake or a delicious waffle at our student council stand!
The third time slot follows in the afternoon with more experiments and lectures. At the end, we will gather again and hand you your personal certificate of participation.

A diverse range of lectures and workshops offers the opportunity to gain insights into the fascinating science and exciting study of biology. Visiting lecture halls, labs and finally the cafeteria at the RPTU in Kaiserslautern gives a first impression of student life.
On the "Biology Day", theory and practice are combined around the topic of biology and the students are offered a decision-making aid for the choice of an advanced course or a field of study. The various biology courses of study and the career prospects of biologists will be presented in student advisory lectures.
