Study biology

Bachelor of Science Molecular Biology

You can find the department's info page here.

The standard period of study for the Bachelor's degree is 6 semesters.

The degree program provides a broad basic education in natural sciences and biology as well as professionally relevant "soft skills" and leads to a first professionally qualifying degree. The degree program can then be continued with the 4-semester, English-language Master's degree program.

The first two years of study provide a broad basic education in the main subjects of biology and the supplementary subjects of mathematics, chemistry and physics. The third year of study allows students to specialize in two areas of study of their choice, as well as a non-biological subject.

Internships (learning by doing) form a significant part of the course, which is theoretically underpinned by lectures and seminars. The work placement gives students an insight into professional practice. The course concludes with the completion of a 9-week Bachelor's thesis and is a prerequisite for the Master's degree course in BioSciences/Biological Sciences.

Bachelor of Education Biology

The biology department's degree program for teachers provides prospective teachers with biological basics and initial insights into subject didactics in 6 semesters.

As part of the individual modules, students are also taught how to use laboratory materials properly through various practical courses.

Master's degree program in Biology

The two-year Master's degree course in Biology, which was introduced in the winter semester 2016/17, offers students four specializations in which they can gain a deeper understanding of the individual topics. Three specialization internships serve to consolidate the laboratory skills learned in the Bachelor's degree and to prepare for the research internship and Master's thesis.
