Count Palatinate Hall & underground passage (Pfalzgrafensaal & unterirdische Gänge)
SOLD OUT!
In the 12th century, the Kaiserpfalz (also called the "Barbarossaburg") was constructed on order of emperor Friedrich I. Barbarossa in the center of what is nowadays known as the city of Kaiserslautern. Owing to this historic occasion, Kaiserslautern is one of only five cities in Germany to hold the status of "Barbarossastadt". Starting in 1570, a castle was built next to the Kaiserpfalz on orders of the ruling duke Johan Casimir. The Count Palatinate Hall is the only remaining building of these two great constructions and, today, accomodates the official representation rooms of the city. From here, a guided tour will start into the underground passage of the former castles. A series of light and sound installations allow the visitors to learn more about the history of Kaiserslautern and its medieval inhabitants.
