An Animal Welfare Committee is appointed at every facility where laboratory animals are kept in accordance with Section 6 (1) sentence 1 of the German Ordinance on the Protection of Laboratory Animals (TierSchVersV).

The Animal Welfare Committee has the task of

1. to support the animal welfare officers in the fulfillment of their duties in accordance with Section 5 para. 4 sentence 1 no. 2 and sentence 2 no. 2 TierSchVersV,
2. to participate in the definition of internal workflows relating to the implementation and evaluation of animal welfare monitoring and related follow-up measures and to monitor compliance with the workflows,
3. monitor the development of animal experiments and their results, taking into account the impact on the animals used, and
4. to act in an advisory capacity with regard to the development and implementation of programs in accordance with Section 10 (2) TierSchVersV.
