Quantitative Zellbiologie

RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau

Quantitative Cell Biology group (PI - Yury Bykov) was established within the Derpartment of Cell Biology in 2023. We use high-throughput genetics, imaging and biochemical approaches to understand how each protein finds its correct place in the cell and what happens if things go wrong. For this, we use one of the simplest and most studied organisms - budding yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisae). We know so much about it and can manipulate the genome so easily making it an ideal living laboratory to test our ideas about the most fundamental aspects of cellular function.

Our main goal is to understand how cells maintain highly ordered environment to perform their most important functions. We try to study as many things as possible in intact cells without breaking down intricately organized cellular structure. We always welcome creative and curious students to join the group for their practical or Bachelors/Masters thesis projects.  Learn more about our Research and Teaching activities! To join the Team contact Yury (yury.bykov [at] rptu.de) if you are interested.
