Aleksandr Kirillov - PhD Student
Aleksandr is measuring how much time mitochondrial precursor proteins spend in the cytosol before they are imported. He is interested to find out how this timing is determined and what happens with precursors that hang around in the cytosol for a long time. Aleks uses novel and established ways to detect transient protein-protein interactions to find the factors that regulate cytosolic fate of mitochondrial precursor proteins.

Gülsah Göktas - PhD Student
Gülsah is developing a reporter to measure the number of ribosomes in the proximity of mitochondrial membrane in living cells. Does this number change in different growth conditions, or cells keep it stable? What happens if the number of ribosomes on the outer membrane is perturbed? What are the translation quality control factors next to the outer membrane? These are some of the interesting questions she tries to answer using different reporters.

Nikita Kvasov - PhD Student
Nikita works on visualizing mRNAs of proteins that are destined to different organelles, first of all, mitochondria. He will use different approaches to label mRNAs in vivo and determine the mechanisms and biological roles of these localizations.
