Our research focuses on the molecular basis of Alzheimer's disease (AD).

The amyloid precursor protein (APP) plays a central role in Alzheimer's disease (AD). We are investigating both its disease-promoting and its normal functions in the healthy brain. To better understand the physiological function of APP, we analyze its interaction partners such as FE65 and perform genetic studies on APP knockout cells.

A particular focus of our research is on the intracellular transport of APP, as this is crucial for its function and possibly also for the development of Alzheimer's disease. On the other hand, we are interested in the function of APP as a cell adhesion molecule with a particular focus on its function at the synapse and its interaction with the cytoskeleton.
