In our research, we study phototrophic pro- and eukaryotic microorganisms that utilize phycobiliproteins as central light-harvesters in photosynthesis, especially in cyanobacteria and algae.

Our focus is on the dynamics of assembly and disassembly of these light-harvesting complexes to understand how organisms adapt to changing environmental conditions.

In addition, we study viruses that infect cyanobacteria - so-called cyanophages. These often carry their own photosynthetic genes, and we are analyzing the functional role of these genes during infection and how they influence the metabolism and the course of infection of the host cells.
