The solar saltern „Ses Salines“ is located at the south of the Balearic Island Mallorca. In collaboration with Dr. Ramon Roselló-Móra and his team from the Mediterranean Institute of Advanced Studies (IMEDEA) we analyze changing microbial community structures along salt gradients. While Dr. Roselló-Móras studies in general focus on prokayotic life, our goal is to investigate biogeographical patterns of protistan plankton communities in extreme habitats, as well as the identification of metabolic responses to salinity.
