New Aqualab research facility for crayfish
The long-awaited crayfish Aqualab research facility is now officially complete. The new system features a fully closed water cycle and consists of several independent modules, each of which can be operated and fine-tuned separately. This modular design allows our scientists to conduct controlled experiments under different environmental conditions simultaneously.
With these capabilities, the facility will soon support in-depth studies on how climate change affects freshwater crayfish, as well as research on infections caused by the crayfish plague pathogen Aphanomyces astaci. The team is excited about the new opportunities and looks forward to gaining valuable insights into crayfish ecology and disease transmission.
As one of the very rare facilities dedicated to advancing research on crayfish and crayfish plague, we warmly welcome collaboration with international research groups. We invite interested teams to get in touch with Dr. habil. Kathrin Theissinger to explore opportunities for joint projects.
